I’ve wanted to check out the Bethlehem Garlic festival since we’ve lived in Connecticut, and this weekend my family and I had a chance to check it out!
Holy cow! (or garlic! ) This was the place TO BE for anything garlic! There were over 70 booths, plus food vendors and krafts crafts and games and of course, a music tent! Even though the weather was lousy, it was CROWDED!
I loved the garlic hats that people were wearing. We went through it rather quickly trying to see as much as we could before it started raining. There were so many places for food, it was almost overwhelming! There were lots of fried foods.
We ended up sharing a friend cheesecake pillow and fried apple fritters! Since we don’t usually eat fried foods, they were little treats.
We stopped in the Kids Ride Section. We decided on one ride, so they went on the Strawberries. Of course they were trying to see who would throw up first! (no one did, but I got nauseous watching them)
Then we were ready to hit the exhibits! There was SO much to see! The Village Center for the Arts was there with face painting and pumpkin painting!
In the music tent we got to see a great band. LOVE THEM! London D ALWAYS puts on a great show!
Then it was time for some of the exhibits. Yes, I ended up buying one each of these. LOVE spices!
This was my favorite booth: Forestopia: Organic, Forest-grown and wild-harvested goods fairly traded direct from grower partners! Oh, yeah, right up my ally. I had a hibiscus vanilla ginger ale and it was SO wonderful! Aedan was excited to find Chicle gum, made by Mayans- which he was just learning about at school. He questioned the vendor quite closely.
We walked around the corner and OMG- THERE IT WAS! TA-DAH!!! HARDCORE SWEET CUPCAKES
I had hoped to have more time to visit more booths and learn more about garlic- but the skies opened and we all ran for our cars! I was intrigued enough to want to return next year and learn all I can about this stinky spice!
Every year I say I’ll make it to this and I never do. Next year I must! Looks like it was a great time, despite the weather!
This sounds like my type of festival! Garlic! YUM. Will definitely put this on my list of fairs next year!
my fave part of these kinds of fairs are all the local foods you can buy from vendors! it’s the top reason why i’m pumped for my town’s apple harvest fest this weekend.
