I am friends with Frannie and Kristina on a Facebook Fitness Group. They are both Beachbody Coaches and talk a lot about the workouts they are doing, and the foods and shakes they are drinking. They are such fitness ROCKSTARS that honestly they intimidated me until I really got to know them much better (Bunco and wine may or may not have had something to do with that)! AND they are so very supportive on our Group page. A few times they spoke about cleanses, but I didn’t pay a whole of of attention to it because honestly, I am a slow and steady kind of gal, not a huge believer in cleanses, but I have always been intrigued by how much weight they’d lose! They invited me to try it with them last week,I figured I’d give it a try and see how it went for me. Here was the plan:
- 3 Shakeology shakes a day (Chocolate, Greenberry, and Strawberry Tropical)
- 2 servings of fruit a day
- Dinner is a big green salad with 3 servings vegetables and 4 ounces protein
- Green tea
There is so much awesome stuff in the shakes- I used water, so it was 150 calories.. and full of vitamin and fiber and all kinds of goodness. Gluten Free, too and low G.I. This is the chocolate shake:

So, back to the cleanse: No coffee . No dairy products. Just stick to the plan and watch for results. .
Day 1. Hey, this is FUN! I like green tea so swapping it for my coffee was no big deal. Chocolate Shakeology for breakfast (YUM!) Apple at 10ish, Greenberry Shake at lunchtime, (Yum) another apple at 4ish, and a large salad with veggies and 4 ounces of grilled chicken. I saved my last shake for night when I knew I would be “snacky”. I had the Strawberry Tropical, and um, not yum. But I drank it. I had lots of water and green tea in between. Honestly, I never peed so much in my life! But I wasn’t very hungry. I did not get big workouts in on any of the days- I had a sick kid home- but I tried to keep moving all day.
Day 2. Woke up ready for green tea and Greenberry Shakeology. I, personally LOVE the Greenberry- it reminds me of a Green Smoothie- rather earthy and to me, simple yummy. I added an apple in the mid morning, and had Strawberry Shake for lunch. Strawberry is my least favorite of the three. I know that it is all natural,but it tasted a little fake to me I was beginning to feel rather peckish even after having a banana at 3ish- it may have had something to do with going grocery shopping, but had to feed my family! I was really looking forward to my salad that night. I was supposed to have the chocolate shake for my shake that night, but I fell asleep before I could have it.
Day 3. I woke up hungry! Made my shake as my green tea brewed. wolfed down an apple, and tried hard not to think about how hungry I was. I SUCKED down glass after glass of water and green tea, and made my next Greenberry shake at 12 on the DOT. At 2pm, I was still hungry, so I had yet another apple,and was still hungry, so I added in a few celery stalks. I had a headache and was grumpy (so says my family). I totally chowed down my salad with chicken and looked forward to my shake at 8pm. I honestly could not wait for it to be over.
THE WEIGH IN: The first thing the next morning morning I couldn’t wait to see the final results:
3 pounds! I lost 3 pounds!
Somehow I expected more. Tracking my calories, I saw that I was only eating around 900 calories a day. I, personally, know that I need more than that-. WAY more -like at least another 500 calories a day to lose weight! I know that my body does not lose weight on severely restricted calories, but will clamp down and hold in case I am starving or something. I think that you’re supposed to do some butt kicking exercises,(Kristina and Frannie do like Px90 or something 4 times a day) – but I was home with a sick kid and had enough of a hard time keeping up with just her. I’m kinda glad I didn’t get all exercise crazy or my body may have eaten itself.
WHAT I THINK: I’m a HUGE fan of the Shakeology shakes. I think that they are a great option to have around for a quick meal replacement maybe ONCE a day- or even a great after school snack for the kids. I am going to buy a bag of the chocolate to have at home for breakfasts not only for me, but for my daughter who needs to be sure to get in more nutrients. I am not a fan of the cleanse, but to be fair, I am not really a fan of any cleanse. I thought that the calorie count for the day was far too low to result in any real weight loss,and I was right- I lost 3 pounds, but I put them back on. That may or may not have been due to Easter, but the bottom line is to lose weight and keep it off, it’s a slow and steady race, not starving your body of calories for a quick show. Beachbody is VERY open about saying that a cleanse is just a way to jump start weight loss- it is not healthy to eat that way all the time. That being said, I see Shakeology being a HUGE part of my slow and steady approach to weight loss. I’m pretty sure if you have at least ONE Shakeology a day your WILL notice a difference.
